UK Parliament has been hit by a cyber security attack.

Liberal Democrat peer Lord Rennard has revealed on Twitter that Parliament was under attack.

In a damning Tweet, a Liberal Democrat peer in the House of Lords stated that Westminster Parliamentary was undergoing a cyber security attack.

Lord Rennard wrote on Twitter at 2:46PM  “Cyber security attack on Westminster Parliamentary e.mails may not work remotely Text urgent messages @LibDemLords @LabourLordsUK @Torypeers.”

Media outlets are reporting that MP’s have been aware about the attack since Friday night. Many stated they were having trouble accessing their emails from a remote location.

A spokeswoman for the House for Parliament released the following statement:

“The Houses of Parliament have discovered unauthorised attempts to access parliamentary user accounts.

“We are continuing to investigate this incident and take further measures to secure the computer network, liaising with the National Cyber Security Centre.

“We have systems in place to protect member and staff accounts and are taking the necessary steps to protect our systems.”
